Farm School

New agricultural and cattle-related technologies provide immediate teaching and research instruments that are dynamic and effective. This is why Unicesumar has an experimental farm, with over 166 acres and stalls for located 10 miles from downtown Maringá.

The farm provides a didactic-pedagogical framework that supports students of Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy and Agribusiness, and Environmental Engineering, among others.

BIOTEC

Cutting-edge laboratory of animal genetics

Biotec is a biotechnology center on the Unicesumar Farm that develops in vitro productions of embryos and studies improvements in animal genetics that can be extended to the market. The laboratory contains the latest equipment, such as a CO2 incubator that is used in the cultivation and preservation of embryos and a fluorescent microscope that allows DNA separation. Such facilities and equipment place Biotec among the top cutting-edge laboratories in the country.

Founded in 2005, Biotec partnered with Bio-Lab Biotechnology in 2010, a Brasilia-based company that is the benchmark in the field of animal genetics, which works with cloning and stem cell therapies. This partnership allows Unicesumar to meet with producers from several states who look to improve their herds.

To work performed at Biotec ranges from the follicular aspiration of oocytes (egg retrieval) to the in vitro fertilization of embryos. It also provides verification (embryo cryopreservation by rapid freezing in nitrogen), the transference of embryos into recipient cows, pregnancy diagnosis, and fetal sexing.

Unicesumar Radio and TV

March 2011 marked on more achievement AT Unicesumar when Unicesumar TV, Channel 28, when live on the air. The TV Channel transmits regional programs produced by journalism students, with the purpose of integrating their studies into TV practice and reflecting on their social role and impact.

Unicesumar TV also rebroadcasts "Canal Futura" (Futura Channel) programming, thus providing the community with regional media that fosters citizens´ achievement and formation.

This role of Unicesumar TV was manifested some time ago when Unicesumar University Radio, FM 94.3, was formed.

Unicesumar thereby ensures, through TV and radio, access to creative and responsible information.

Cultural Accomplishments

Unicesumar Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra

The Unicesumar Choir began its activities in 2000, and the Unicesumar Philharmonic Orchestra was formed in 2003. They currently consist of approximately 100 members, including students, alumni, staff, and community members.

In addition to integrating university life with the community by participating in the most important events in Maringá and region-wide, the choir and orchestra promote musical culture through an eclectic mix of erudite, popular, and folk music.
